The training focused on helping teachers understand the different barriers faced by learners with disabilities and practical ways of addressing these barriers within the classroom and school environment.

The sessions covered areas including adapting teaching and learning approaches, improving classroom participation, providing appropriate learning support, effective communication with learners with disabilities, and creating safe and inclusive classroom environments.

Speaking during the training, CAHO education specialist Simon Ndikiri emphasized that inclusive education goes beyond enrolling children with disabilities in school; it requires schools and teachers to ensure that learners are supported to participate, learn, and achieve their full potential.

“As CAHO, we want ensure that children with disabilities are properly taken care of while in schools and have all the necessary requirements they need are in place for them to keep in school”, Simon Ndikiri said.

The training also encouraged teachers to identify the individual needs of learners and work with parents, school leadership, communities, and relevant service providers to address barriers affecting children's education.

The teacher of Muni Lake Primary School welcomed the training, noting that it provided practical approaches that can be applied in everyday classroom settings.
